DSA Autism Support
Our specialist autism support services are designed to empower students to thrive in their academic journey. By providing tailored support, guidance, and advocacy, we help students overcome challenges and build the confidence to succeed.

Key benefits of our support include:

Improved academic performance:

Our mentors build strong relationships with their students, taking the time to understand their individual needs and preferences. We work collaboratively to develop personalised study strategies, time management techniques, and problem-solving skills, ensuring a smooth and successful academic year.

Enhanced well-being:

We prioritise your mental health and well-being. Our mentors are acutely aware of the co-occurring mental health challenges that autistic students may face. We provide a safe and supportive space where you can openly discuss your feelings and develop strategies to manage anxiety, stress, and other mental health concerns. Our goal is to guide you through all challenges with understanding, empathy, and practical tools, empowering you to live your university life with confidence and resilience.

Increased independence:

We understand that many of our students are moving away from home for the first time. Our focus on developing key life skills, self-advocacy and positive autism identity empowers students to navigate university life with confidence.

Greater social integration:

We help students build strong communication skills that suits their personal preference. We support our students to 'find their tribe' by seeking out like minded social groups and understanding what works for them.

You understand very well that I have problems with communicating in written and spoken form and improving on that is what I need the most help with. I find the sessions with you very useful as we are practising exactly what I am lacking and you provide me with tips on how to use all of the available resources like software and the library. I would certainly recommend you to a friend.

I'm in the last year of my course, and this has been my best support so far; he understands my needs. I'm busy during the day when on placement; my sessions happen at the weekend or evening, sometimes even on the same day if I need to talk. I like that he is good at listening and helps me talk through different ways of fixing problems. I wish I had this support earlier on I my course.

The support I’ve received has been tailored to suit my course content as well as my personal additional needs as an adhd and autistic adult. My tutor is positive and focused. They keep me on track and help me understand all the things I daren’t ask about in other public educational situations. I don’t know how I’d manage my degree without them. I’m learning so much about myself and what I need to succeed on my course, and sessions have fitted into my hugely changeable life timetable with ease.
